I’ve received information from an anonymous source today who works at a GM dealership that the ATS is probably ceasing production soon. He sent this image to me:
Whether or not this is fact will have to be seen. However it makes me wonder if they’re working on the replacement (probably called CT4) simultaneously. The ATS is not the hottest seller in the segment, but it does have it’s fair share of the market in comparison with some of its competitors, so killing it off all together doesn’t seem like the brightest idea, so it’s possible we may see something coming soon.

Genuinely curious what Cadillac will do. Car sales are down, IIRC the XT5 sold more than all of their cars at one point. Sucks because they apparently drive great, just not great on the inside.
Maybe they’ll pull another segment straddling CTS like the old days and just eliminate one car from the lineup.

Nah, I doubt they’ll pull something like that again. I think those years are past them. If any car deserves culling from the line, its the confused XTS, but that just went through a mid-cycle refresh so I doubt that’ll be happening.
I’m placing bets on a CT4 to be revealed at LA or Detroit next year.

An anonymous source familiar with an official’s thinking?

My guess is it’s “ceasing production” as in the ATS name is getting retired at the end of it’s current lifecycle in favour of the new naming scheme.

Not really eliminating, but CT5 will straddle 3/5 series, leaving the CT4 to compete with the A3 and the like: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/2020-cadillac-ct5-sports-sedan-spied-will-battle-the-3-series-news

Many sources close to GM say just that. CTS and ATS go away and replaced by CT5 that will straddle the segment like the gen 1&2 CTS. XTS won’t be replaced from what I’ve found but it will stick around until 2019-2020ish. They are discussing a possible CT4 that will be a FWD fighter to the A3 & CLA.

Well; maybe it’ll add more kindling to the depreciation fire. I couldn’t help but notice that some of these with manuals that aren’t that old and not that many miles are under $15,000.

I was in the market for and was genuinely interested in buying an ATS 4 years ago. But I didn’t.
I ultimately bought an Audi A4. The A4 felt larger, drove better, and actually cost less than a comparably equipped Caddy (2.0T AWD). Even with our GM discount. I guess to that end, I might credit the hustle of the Audi sales rep. GM sales peeps can be pretty lazy in metro Detroit. Your results may vary.
I also couldn’t get over the garbage pizza that is the gauge cluster in the ATS. Fuck, is that thing gross.
I like the ATS. I hope they have plans for a second generation. It took 3 tries for GM to get the CTS right, in my opinion. The CT6 is in my fantasy garage. Some day.
Unfortunately, the biggest gap in their portfolio is crossovers. Compact crossovers, and performance crossovers. Where is the Cadillac SQ5/Macan fighter? What about a V-Series X5/Cayenne competitor?
Put some of that Escalade money to good use.

My best friend says the same thing whenever I wear them. They’re the shoe equivalent of the Solo Jazz cup.

Johan de LET’SREDOOURALPHANUMERICNAMINGSCHEMEAGAIN stated a while back that the ATS, CTS and XTS will all be going away in favor of a 2-sedan lineup of CT5 and CT6.

I hope they do replace it with a CT4. There’s lots to love about the ATS and some things that aren’t so great.
I loved the chassis, brakes, steering, etc. of the ones I’ve driven. I didn’t mind CUE or the piano black interior that is painfully prone to smudges. I did NOT like the gauges. Those gauges are absolutely awful. When you compare them to the digital gauges in the C7, Camaro, or CTS, it’s a huge bummer that GM never did something similar for the ATS.
My dream car would probably be an ATS with a digital gauge cluster, HUD, 1LE levels of grip and downforce, and the LT1 V8. Don’t get me wrong, the LF4 turbo V6 is phenomenal, but the aftermarket has not taken to it beyond a tune and bolt ons. Plus, the LT1 sounds remarkably better.

This is a shame. I helped my grandma get into a performance-pack ATS, and it’s a phenomenal car.

Yes, this is the plan. CT5 is due next year and CT4 shortly after. Except CT4 will also be RWD.

XT4 will be at New York. CT5 will probably be LA or Detroit. Then after that will be CT4 and supposedly an XT6.

They are discussing a possible CT4 that will be a FWD fighter to the A3 & CLA.
I’m already visualizing TTAC writing daily “death watch” articles citing how the CT4 is a rebadged Cruze.

I didn’t say it, but I was referring to the ATS/CTS. But to answer your question, I wouldn’t. Rather sit my butt in an E Class.

My only real complaint with the ATS is that the back seat is too small for the segment now. Buying used they are great bargains, even new there are decent discounts. When the car was released it was competitive in every segment, wasn’t the best in most though. I say the back is small because 2 rear facing car seats are a requirement and make anything below a mid sized seem small.

I’ve heard that too - one car to replace both CTS and ATS, and possibly a new, even smaller/cheaper model to slot underneath as a new entry level sedan.

Nice Bimmer! Does it have Bluetooth? A rear view camera? CarPlay/Android Auto?
No? Does it at least have a fancy interior? Or even an affordable price?
![]() 02/20/2018 at 19:43 |

Cadillac raised their prices before the were ready to. They are not ready to command as much as Lexus and the Germans!
The ATS should’ve started around 22k, with the 1.8L NA or 1.4T
The CTS should start under 30k with the 1.4T

Bluetooth? Yes. Music streaming and calling.
Rear view camera? Yes.
CarPlay/Android Auto? Optional/no.
Fancy interior? To me, yes. I drive a Passat.
An affordable price? $35,995 as shown, which to me seems affordable.

Those are Buick prices. If you no longer want to be considered, “the cheap alternative,” you have to fight.

It took Lexus awhile, and it’s going to take Cadillac a LOT longer to gain that acceptance. Shit, Genesis might make it before Cadillac’s renaissance will. New and resurging luxury cars have to be underpriced for at least a few years while gaining acceptance in the market.
The CTS used to be like a 5-series for the price of a 3, for example.
Caddy’s biggest mistake since 2000 was not selling the BLS over here.

The ATS as we know it will die, but there will be another vehicle based on the Alpha 2 platform that will be somewhere between the size of the ATS and CTS, leaving the CT6 and whatever they call this new model (CT5/CT4?) as the only remaining sedans under the Cadillac brand.

Like all GM cars, they could start the price a $1 but by the time you put a steering wheel (only available with the 45k standard equipment package of course) you’ll be back at the German range.

Had a lot of potential but was half-baked and too expensive (Great deals on used ones tho). The laughably small back seat , trunk and the frustrating Cue system turned me off of one back in ‘14 and I ended up with an E90. Still love that V6 and the handling which was truly class leading.
They should have made the extended wheelbase Chinese ATS-L in US as the standard with a simple Chevy MyLink based system.
Oh well, hope the ATS+CTS replacement CT5 is a good car.

Something something Stinger something something ugly.
![]() 02/22/2018 at 00:55 |

How dare you! *Gets triggered*
Iwill concede that maybe three or four design elements of the stinger are gaudy or unsavory.
BuT, I can’t think of a single modern Cadillacother than the xlr or the old wagon that I would look twice in a parking lot... It’s just too exaggerated and unnatural and big badge and crazy lights!
They do have nice interiors, we once were upgraded to an escalade and oh boy was it luxurious!
I’ll put it this way. The day that Las Vegas hotels start using stingers for limos rather than Cadillacs... that’ll be the day I stop thinking Cadillacs are gaudy and ugly.
Again, dynamically Cadillacs (and in fact much of Gm) are very good! But I’d rather get a Buick than a Cadillac.
